Beef bro is a Singapore-based halal-certified food outlet specialising in Taiwanese-styled blow-torched beef cubes.[1]

Background

Beef Bro was founded by Singaporean entrepreneur Norvan Tan and local actor Noriff Danial Ashriq in 2017.[2] It initially started out as a pop-up stall at the Geylang Serai bazaar, and later expanded into its first mall outlet in Century Square in May 2018.[2] According to Norvan’s LinkedIn profile, Beef Bro is subsumed under holding company One Bite F&B Pte Ltd.[3]

As of August 2018, it is understood that Danial left the company to focus on acting, and that the company was managed by Norvan and two other business partners.[4] In an interview with 8 Days, it was revealed that one of the business partners was a Singaporean named Kelvin Tan.[2] He and Norvan were childhood friends, and fellow co-founders of customised sandal brand Blackout Singapore.[2]

The brand is known for their signature grilled beef cubes, which are sold in a variety of flavours such as salt & pepper, cheese, mentaiko, garlic butter and mala.

Expansion of menu to include Nasi Lemak

While Beef Bro is known for its blow-torched beef cubes, the brand has also since expanded its range to include nasi lemak at its dine-in outlets. In an interview, the decision to expand permanently to include nasi lemak was based on the positive reception to its limited offering of nasi lemak with Boston lobster during the Circuit Breaker period.[2]

Outlets

According to Beef Bro’s official website, the brand has a total of 7 outlets as of 11 August 2022, comprising 5 outlets selling their signature blow-torched beef cubes, and 3 outlets selling their expanded menu of Nasi Lemak accompanied by their signature beef cubes.

On September 2020, it was reported that co-founder Norvan Tan was on trial for allegedly sexually assaulting his sister’s friend in 2016.[10] Following news of Norvan’s conviction, Beef Bro issued a statement highlighting that he would “be temporarily stepping down from the company’s board and relieved of all official duties”.[2] In a subsequent interview, Norvan’s business partner Kelvin Tan shared that the brand actually saw “slightly more” customers in the days following the news of Norvan’s trial.[2]

“I think there were people who got to know about Beef Bro [through the news] and they came to try our food.”[2]
