Background
Early life & family
Beatrice Tan was born on October 7, 1988 in Singapore.[5] Her father is Gary Tan and her mother is Cherine Chia.[6] She also has a sister named Rachel Tan.[6] She got engaged to Dean Krstevski, the CEO of a fintech company, in Melbourne in November 2018.
The couple flew to Switzerland for their pre-wedding photoshoot and got married on 13 May 2019 at The Clifford Pier.[7][8]
She has two children, Aria Krstevska and Yan Krstevski, whom she gave birth to in 2020 and 2022, respectively.[9][10]
Education
According to her LinkedIn profile, Beatrice studied in Temasek Polytechnic from 2005-2008 and graduated with a Diploma in Business, Marketing and Tourism. She then went on to study at National University of Singapore from 2008-2011 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce.[11]
Career
Early career and founding KLARRA
Post studies, she then completed an internship at UBS’ Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) Client Experience Team, Business Development Unit for a period of 3 months before moving onto a full-time analyst position at Credit Suisse for a period of 5 months.[11] Beatrice then quit the corporate scene for a few years to focus on being a full-time blogger.[12]
She then founded the local fashion label, KLARRA, in 2015 and has been the Founder and Creative Director of the business since then.[11]
Social media influencer
On the side, Beatrice is also a social media influencer with a following of 79.6K as of August 2022.[4] She first started out as a blogger during her polytechnic days on the now defunct site beatricetan.livejournal.com. Her last post was on 4 August 2010.[5] It was on her blog that she used to do paid advertorials for clothing brands Mori Vie, Dandzelia, Troops, The Tinsel Rack, and camera online store Clicksnleaks, amongst others.[5]
She also quit her job in the corporate world to pursue blogging full time.[12]
“I actually quit my job to do this full time and I wanted to make it a 9 to 5 job as well. I want to make it more disciplined, so I try to wake up in the morning like 8, 9 and do my blog stuff until the evening or night and then get off work. But the thing for the blog industry is, I feel like people will require you to reply very promptly even on weekends. I feel bad about that cause sometimes I really have to go out and I cannot get in touch with my emails and all in time so there’s no “paid leave”.”[12]
Since then, she’s moved over to Instagram where she works with brands such as Dior and SKII.[13][14]
Blogshop modelling (2000s)
During her university days, Beatrice was talent-spotted at her school’s flea market by then fashion label Bonito Chico, which is now known as Love, Bonito. She then started modelling for them.[12]
Media coverage
Back in 2007, Beatrice took part in season 1 of Mediacorp’s talent-scouting competition, Hey! Gorgeous.[3] She has also been interviewed by several publications such as Her World and 8 Days on her journey to being a girlboss.[3][7]
