Gang Ye
Gang Ye is a Chinese entrepreneur who co-founded global consumer internet company Sea (formerly known as Garena) in 2009. Since January 2017, he has served as the group’s Chief Operating Officer, after having served previously as Group Technology Officer from March 2010 to December 2016.[1]
Background
Education
Born in China, Gang Ye arrived in Singapore when he was in his teens, under a government effort to recruit foreign talent through scholarship programmes.[2] He attended Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Junior College.[2]
Gang Ye holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, in Computer Science and Economics from Carnegie Mellon University.[1]
He is a naturalised Singaporean.[3]
Professional career
Gang Ye previously worked at Wilmar International and the Economic Development Board of Singapore.[1]
In 2009, Gang Ye co-founded consumer internet company Sea Group (then known as Garena), together with fellow co-founders Forrest Li and David Chen.[4]
Attaining Billionaire status
In November 2019, Gang Ye became a billionaire, after shares of Sea Group reached an all-time high following the company’s report of a record US$610.1million in 3Q 2019.[5] According to reports, Sea’s results were mainly driven by its digital entertainment segment that houses its gaming and esports division Garena.[2]
Its most popular offering is mobile game Free Fire, which ranked among the five most downloaded games on the Apple and Google app stores for three straight quarters in 2019 and has amassed over US$1billion in adjusted revenue since 2017.[6]

According to Forbes, Gang Ye is the 10th richest billionaire in Singapore, with an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion.[7] Globally, he is ranked 984th.
