Aisyah Aziz is a Singaporean singer-songwriter and actress.[1][2] Actively performing in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, Aisyah sings in both the English and Malay language.[3] She is highly regarded for her fashion sense,[4] having been invited to various fashion events[5] and featured in several magazines.[6] As of April 2020, she has over 267,000 followers on Instagram and over 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Background

Early life & family

Aisyah began singing at the age of five and started participating in small karaoke competitions by the time she was eleven years old.[7] She has a twin sister and an older brother who is none other than the Singaporean singer-actor Aliff Aziz.[8][9]

Music career highlights

Akedemi Fantasia (2013) - Finalist

In 2013, Aisyah participated in Akedemi Fantasia - a Malaysian singing competition that had been televised on ASTRO.[10] A year after finishing the competition in sixth place, Aisyah embarked on her professional music career at the age of nineteen, having been inspired by the veteran singer and entertainment powerhouse, Anita Sarawak.[11][12]

National Day (2018 & 2019) - Singer & performer

Along with 26 other local artists, Aisyah was involved in the 2019 National Day theme song - Our Singapore (2019), where she had been given a solo part alongside the likes of Rahimah Rahim, Charlie Lim and Dick Lee.[13][14] In 2018, she was invited to perform at the National Day Parade, having been one of the singers for that year's theme song - a remake of We Are Singapore (1987).[15][16][17]

NEA Clean & Green Campaign (2019) - Singer

Aisyah collaborated with the National Environment Agency (NEA)’s in October 2019 to execute the Clean and Green campaign's theme song.[18] As the singer of the campaign’s theme song, Say YES to Waste Less (2019), she was featured in the song's music video which had been posted on Facebook on 11 October 2019. Within a month, the music video had gained over a million views on the platform.[19] Apart from Aisyah, the team behind the successful video comprised of Jiyoung Jamie Chung (Composer), Joel Tan (Lyricist) and Jasper Tan (Director).[20] In an interview with The Straits Times, Aisyah remarked that the Marina Bay Platform had been the largest stage that she has performed on as of 2018.[21]

Aisyah takes inspiration for her music from artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Ne-yo, P. Ramlee and Aerosmith - to name a few.[22][23]

Roar! (2019)

In 2019, Aisyah was one of the featured profiles in CNA’s music documentary, Roar! (2019) - where she had starred alongside local artists Benjamin Kheng and Wang Weiliang.[28][29] The two-part documentary premiered on 3 August 2019.

Acting - Television & web-series

Aisyah made her debut as an actress in the television remake of Dick Lee's notable musical, Fried Rice Paradise.[30][31]

In 2017, Aisyah received nine nominations at the Anugerah Planet Muzik awards - of which she had won three.[32][33] That same year, she was invited to perform[34] at the prestigious Mnet Asian Music Awards where she had also walked away with an award.[35]
