Background
Early life & family
As an influencer, Jessica does not shy away from stigmatised topics. This openness applies to her personal life and the issues she face. Jessica is a child of divorce and was raised in a single-parent unit. She has shared that she was a victim of domestic abuse and suffered from depression as a child.[1] Jessica moved out of her family home at nineteen years old.[2]
Education
After completing her GCE O-level examinations at Holy Innocents' High School in 2008,[3] Jessica pursued a degree in Mass Communications from MDIS-OCU (Oklahoma City University).[4]
Blogging (2005 - 2017)
Although Jessica started blogging recreationally as a teenager, it is unclear when she started blogging professionally. Her first sponsored post dates back to March 2009 where she had reviewed the Neutrogena Wave face cleanser.[5] As documented on her website, Jessica has produced advertorial content for brands like Estée Lauder, Korea Tourism Organisation, Eu Yan Sang and Samsung.[6] Her last blog post was published on 23 February 2017.[7]

The first episode featuring Xenia Tan was aired in March 2019. As of April 2020, the video has more than 200,000 views - making it the most viewed Pillow Talk episode on the channel.[11]
The Final One S1 - Top 60 (2013)
In April 2013, Jessica announced on her blog that she had been shortlisted as a Top 60 participant for Mediacorp's first season of The Final One (2013) - a reality singing competition in Singapore.[12] However, she did not advance to the final stages. Before auditioning for the show, Jessica had collaborated with musician Sky Ong to produce song covers on YouTube. The duo's mashup of the Ah Boys to Men (2012) theme song has more than 44,000 views on YouTube as of April 2020, making it one of Sky's most popular uploads.[13] The pair's mashup of Taylor Swift’s Begin Again (2012) was also televised on Channel 5.[14][15]
Reelity Showdown S2 - Contestant (2012)
In partnership with Resorts World Genting, Jessica participated in a four-part variety show where teams had to undergo a series of challenges at the amusement park. She was paired up with Diana Choo and competed alongside bloggers like Benjamin Toh and Juli.[16]
Other endeavours
JEXAGEMS Boutique Store - Founder (2019)
JEXAGEMS is an Instagram store selling bespoke statement jewellery. As of April 2020, the store sells gemstone and crystal bead bracelets that can be customised. The store's pre-made designed bracelets are launched with accompanying facts about the crystals and gemstones used in the piece.[17]
Shiberty Bakes - Co-founder (2016 - 2018)
Jessica opened a bakery and café at Owen Road in 2016.[18][19] Featuring sweet treats like home-baked macarons[20] and bespoke cakes[21] alongside savoury dishes,[22] the café had been featured by a bevvy of local media publications. In 2017, a customer attempted to sully the reputation of Shiberty Bakes, alleging that the hygiene and service standards were not up to par.[23] The incident blew over after Jessica addressed the situation on social media. The business has since permanently closed.[24]
