Privé Group, a well-known chain of restaurants and lifestyle dining outlets in Singapore, announced the immediate cessation of all its F&B operations as of 31 August 2025, citing external market challenges and rising operational costs as key reasons for the decision.

Background and closure

Founded in 2007, Privé Group grew to encompass multiple brands and venues across Singapore before encountering mounting financial pressures in a challenging F&B landscape affected by cost increases and tight margins.[1] Its closure is viewed as part of a broader wave of F&B industry contractions in Singapore during 2024 and 2025.[1]

Closure details

The Privé Group disclosed in a statement that the decision was made with “great sadness” and was not taken lightly—management concluded that there was “no viable path forward.”[2] All Privé outlets across Singapore—including locations at Holland Village, Botanic Gardens, and Wheelock Place—were shut down.[2][3]The company announced that it would appoint an independent financial advisor to manage the winding-down process and related matters.[1] Two outlets located at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM)—namely Empress (a Chinese restaurant) and Privé at ACM—were taken over by Commonwealth Concepts. Commonwealth Concepts will continue operating Empress without service disruptions and convert the former Privé ACM outlet into a Baker & Cook restaurant, with its opening scheduled for 4 September 2025.[1][2]

These outlets would also honour prior event bookings made before the takeover.[1]

Impact on staff

While most outlets were closed, some staff were retained through the Commonwealth Concepts takeover of the ACM outlets. Privé’s chairman, Yuan Oeij, noted that business had been declining since late 2023 and that operational challenges had layered over time, limiting options to keep the business afloat.[1]
