Shawn Huang Wei Zhong (born 1982) is the director for enterprise development at Temasek Holdings. In June 2020, he was announced as People's Action Party candidate for the 2020 General Elections.[1]

Background

Before joining Temasek Holdings, Shawn Huang worked for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) as an F-16 fighter pilot.[2] He joined the air force at 18 years old.[3] In 2018, Shawn Huang was the National Day Parade Commander.[4] He has volunteered in Taman Jurong Constituency since 2010 where he is also the chairman of the Community Arts and Culture Club.

Early life & family

Shawn Huang was born in 1982 as Ingkiriwang Shawn Wei Zhong.[5] In 1989, his parents changed his name to Huang Wei Zhong Shawn in a deed poll. In a Facebook post dated 28 June 2020, he explained that he was misinformed about the validity of his name when he applied for his National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) at 12 years old. He says:

"I recently looked into the matter again, and confirmed that what I had been told while in primary school was incorrect, and my deed poll name has been valid all along. I therefore decided to henceforth use my legal surname Huang, which was intended by my parents for me."[6]

Shawn Huang was born in Singapore and is a Singapore citizen by birth.[7]

Education

Shawn Huang graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2006 as a Top Military Graduate. He attained a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.[8] In 2015, he was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship and pursued the Tsinghua-MIT Global Master of Business Administration at Tsinghua University.[9]
