During his time with Clicknetwork, Paul Twohill was a co-host for ‘Chick vs. Dick’ and ‘Wonder Boys’.[3][4]

Background[5][6]

In Catholic High School, Paul was the lead singer of a rock band that had performed during the school’s annual talent competition called 'Catholic High Music Awards'.[7][8] Following his secondary education, he joined Singapore Idol.

In 2007, Paul enrolled into Ngee Ann Polytechnic where he obtained a Diploma in Mass Communications. During his National Service between 2010 and 2012, Paul served under 36SCE (Singapore Combat Engineers) as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel (EOD).[9] Following which, Paul furthered his studies at RMIT University where he graduated with Distinction in Professional Communications in 2014.

Personal life

Paul Twohill is of Australian and Chinese-Filipino descent. He was born to Anthony Twohill and Angelina Estrelita Soluiano on 7 March 1989.[10][11][12] Paul is the youngest of three children.[13] His older brother is Edmund Joseph Twohill who previously served in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) under various appointments including being part of the Honorary Aide De Camp Corp (HADC).[14][15][16] His older sister, Natalya Ann Thora Twohill is the founder and co-founder of the companies, Ivy Cubs and Kiddet, both specializing in child enrichment activities.[17]

At 11 years old, Paul was affected by severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He claimed to have not showered for a year as he was afraid of soap. In that same year, Paul started singing seriously after being inspired by Britney Spears. This prompted him to join the choir.[18]

In a 2017 podcast interview with ‘Do Not Clique’, Paul stated his love for sweet and sour pork. He also enjoys watching the sitcom animation, Rick and Morty during his free time.[19]

Career highlights

Since February 2018, Paul Twohill is the Lead English teacher at Jan & Elly English Language School which specializes in phonics and writing classes targeted at children from 4 to 12 years old. Before teaching English classes, Paul Twohill developed a keen sense of business acumen as a Business Development Manager and Project Coordinator at companies like Veev Interactive Pte Ltd (May 2017 - Jan 2018), Passport Asia (Mar 2015 - Feb 2016), The Butter Factory (Feb 2013 - Oct 2014) and The Events Artery (Mar 2010 - Sep 2010). Additionally, Paul Twohill had previously worked at his sister’s company, Kiddet from March to November 2016.[20]

2011 - 2014 Chick vs. Dick[22] Co-host

From 2011 to 2014, Paul was the co-host for the series ‘Chick vs. Dick’. The series follows a ‘battle of the sexes’ format featuring Paul Twohill and Yan Kay Kay (Yan Qihua).[23] In each episode, the two attempt challenges from ingesting a spoonful of cinnamon to learning how to pole dance.[24][25] Since its first premiere on 18 January 2008,[26] ‘Chick vs. Dick’ has a total of 99 episodes and garnered an estimated total of 1.6 million views on YouTube.

From 2014 to 2017, Paul co-hosted ‘Wonder Boys’ with Charles Benedict Ng.[27] In each episode, the pair tried various activities from experiencing cryotherapy to ghost hunting.[28][29] The series has 25 episodes with an estimated total of over 300,000 views on YouTube.

Artiste under iPop Live (2007)

In the same year, Paul Twohill signed as an artiste under iPop Live, a one-stop online record label, music store and artiste management company formed by renowned singer, songwriter and producer, John Klass.[30] Under the label, Paul released two singles titled ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Here I Am’ which rose to first place on the 91.3FM music charts on the first week of May in 2008.[31][32] Paul Twohill also landed regular performance gigs at Timbre @ The Substation.[33]

Club DJ with The Commercial Underground Trio (2007)

After Singapore Idol in 2006, Paul briefly performed as a club DJ. He debuted with the DJ collective, The Commercial Underground Trio (C.U.T.) at Home Club in March 2007.[34]

Before furthering his tertiary studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Paul Twohill participated in the second season of Singapore Idol where he landed in 4th place.[35][36][37]

At the time, Paul was constantly picked on by the media for his signature shoulder-length hair which covered most of his face, his punk rock dressing and his use of eye-liner.[38][39][40][41] Despite the criticism, Paul stated that his hairstyle and dressing gives him confidence, akin to emulating the Biblical character, Samson.[42][43]

During the competition, rumours of a romantic relationship between Paul and fellow contestant, Jasmine Tye circulated among viewers. The rumour was only confirmed years later in a 2017 podcast interview with 'Do Not Clique'. During the interview, Paul mentioned that he had dated Jasmine for a brief period while they were both on Singapore Idol.[44]

Shortly after his participation in Singapore Idol, numerous fake accounts on Friendster began impersonating Paul. One account allegedly deceived 845 individuals. Despite the fake Friendster accounts, Paul Twohill remained unfazed. In an interview with The Straits Times, Paul mentioned that he was “totally fine with it”.[45] In December 2006, as part of a celebrity poll by The New Paper, Paul Twohill received the Wacky Award.[46]
