Nicole Liel (Singapore Influencer)

Nicole Liel (born Nicole Chen in 1998) is a Singaporean influencer active mainly on TikTok and Instagram.[1][2] She also owns a lash lift studio, Cuuul.[3]

As of October 2022, Nicole has amassed around 25.7k followers on Instagram, as well as 155.8k followers and 12.2 million likes on TikTok.[1][2]

Nicole was born and raised in Singapore, and is currently dating tattoo artist Jeremin, who is an apprentice at Fingers Crossed Studio.[4][5] The couple have applied “about five times” for a built-to-order (BTO) flat since 2020, and were finally successful in 2022.[6][7]

Nicole completed her university education in July of 2022, with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.[6][8][9]

Career

kNOCk Out (2020)

In 2020, Nicole joined Night Owl Cinematics’s (NOC) reality show kNOCk Out, where contestants go through 8 challenges to learn how to become a content creator.[10] Nicole competed against 9 other contestants and made it to the 7th challenge, but was unfortunately eliminated in the penultimate episode.[11]

After the competition, she signed with NOC as a talent and video producer, where she remained until January 2021.[12]

Influencer

As an influencer, Nicole has advertised for brands like Gojek and Chope on Instagram.[13][14] She has also made several guides and “hacks” for events like the National Day Parade (NDP) ticket balloting and her BTO journey.[15][16]

Cuuul

Established by Nicole in 2020, Cuuul is a Wudhuk and Muslimah friendly beauty salon that specialises in lash lifts and lash botox.[3][17] The salon currently has three branches across Singapore in Sengkang, Woodlands and Chinatown.[17]

Newsworthy incidents

Involvement in the NOC Sgcickenrice Saga (2021)

In October 2021, an Instagram account with the handle @sgcickenrice was created, exposing NOC’S co-founder Sylvia Chan for alleged workplace abuse of staff and talents under her management.[18][19] The Instagram account is now defunct.

Nicole was one of the many ex-NOC employees who spoke to Mustsharenews in an interview published on 19 October 2021.[20] In this interview, Nicole details the times Sylvia would allegedly verbally abuse talents and staff on set if their performance was not up to par.[20] Nicole also claims that her payments were also withheld for long periods of time.[20]

On 29 October 2021, local blogger and influencer Xiaxue revealed on TikTok that @sgcickenrice was run by a 20-year-old student, Brandon Tan.[21] Brandon is a close friend of Nicole’s, and the two of them host the Not Gonna Lie podcast together on YouTube.[22][23]

NDP 2022

Nicole went viral during NDP 2022 for a meme-worthy answer to the thing she was most grateful for that year.[6] “HDB for giving me a BTO queue number!”, which was promptly followed by, “Ya Kun kaya toast”.[6][24] Following this, she scored a promotional deal with local chain Ya Kun kaya toast.[25][26]
