Background

Fadli Fawzi has worked as a research assistant for think tanks like the Asia Research Institute (ARI), the Institute of Policy Studies and the Centre for Research for Pedagogy and Practice.[6] From 2008 to 2013, he was a senior policy development officer with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).[7] Since January 2020, Fadli Fawzi is a lawyer at Inkwell Law Corporation and works in the areas of both criminal and civil litigation (including family law) and handles cases in the Supreme Court, State Courts and Syariah Court.[8][9][10] He is also an associate tutor at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM).[11]

Education

From 2001 to 2005, Fadli was a student at National University of Singapore (NUS) from which he graduated with an honours degree in sociology.[12][13]

Politics

General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Marine Parade GRC)

Fadli Fawzi was introduced as a Workers’ Party (WP) candidate on 27 June 2020.[18] In a Facebook video published on 28 June 2020, he explained that the reason he joined the WP is:

“Because I believe that Singapore is bigger than just one political party. We need an opposition to examine the flaws and the assumptions of our policymaking process. A rational and responsible opposition like the Workers’ Party (WP) brings a wider spectrum of views to Parliament.”[19]

According to his profile on the WP website, his hope for Singapore is:

For Singapore to be a more just and democratic country where people are empowered to make rational and informed decisions and where its diverse people are united by hope, and not fear of the future.[20]

With 42.24 per cent of the votes, the Workers' Party team lost Marine Parade GRC to the People's Action Party team led by Tan Chuan Jin.[21]
