Mariam Jaafar (born 1977) is the Singapore managing director and partner for the Boston Consulting Group. In June 2020, she was announced as a People's Action Party candidate for the 2020 General Elections.[1]

Background

Before joining the Boston Consulting Group in 2006, Mariam Jaafar was the chief of staff and chief operating officer of Barclays Wealth Management Asia, Middle East, and Africa. She had also worked at Vertex Management.[2] Outside of the professional sphere, she is vice-chairman of the Woodlands Community Club management committee and a GOVTECH Singapore board member.[3][4] Mariam Jaafar is a part of the Sembawang GRC team headed by Minister of Education, Ong Ye Kung.[5]

Early life & family

Mariam Jaafar was born in 1977 to parents who worked as a Malay teacher and a nurse. On top of his full-time job, her father worked as a translator to supplement the family's income.[6]

Education

Mariam Jaafar was a student of Raffles Girls Secondary School[7] and Raffles Junior College.[8] She received the MENDAKI scholarship award in 1990.[9] Mariam Jaafar furthered her studies at Stanford University where she graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering in 2000. In 2004, she pursued a Master's in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.[10]
