Jade Rasif is a famous female DJ in Singapore who has experience in modelling, acting and hosting. She currently co-stars in the Youtube talk show ‘Real Talk’ by Millennials of Singapore. She rose to fame from her participation and success in New Paper New Face 2013. On top of this, Jade is known for being transparent about her personal life on social media where she has openly admitted to ‘thirst trapping’, plastic surgery and her pregnancy.

Background

Jade Rasif was first introduced to modelling through her experience in the New Paper New Face 2013, where she had gained experience while alongside trained individuals. She eventually attained a first runner-up position in the competition and was also conferred Subaru’s Miss Vivacious Subsidiary Award.[1]

She had then gone on to further her modelling career but moved on to being a DJ due to the judgements she faced as a model. As a DJ in Singapore, Jade Rasif earns up to SGD$1,000 for a one hour set.[2] She has DJ-ed in local clubs such as Zouk, F. Club and Get Juiced as well as abroad in Jakarta and Bangkok. Jade Rasif has two younger biological sisters Khym Fong and Tyen Rasif. Her sister, Tyen Rasif, is best known for her fitness video collaboration with Jade in which she trained her pregnant sister. Jade's biological mother is Joyce Fong and her biological father is David Rasif.

Education

Jade Rasif received her primary education from Convent of The Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) Toa Payoh Primary School. She then went on to Saint Joseph’s Institution (SJI) International School for her secondary education and subsequently attended Catholic Junior College (CJC). She furthered her studies in the National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated with a degree in Psychology.

Personal life

Plastic Surgery

In a recent episode of ‘Real Talk’ by Millennials of Singapore titled “Plastic Surgery”, Jade Rasif revealed some of the cosmetic work that she had done to her face and body (Youtube video). On top of breast augmentation to increase her cup size from 30C to E, Jade claims to have underwent a permanent nose job in 2013 that cost her SGD$10,000.[3] Once every 6 months, Jade Rasif also receives botox for her jaw at a cost of SGD$500.

Thirst Trapping

Jade Rasif spoke openly to Rice Media about her habit of thirst trapping on Instagram (@djjaderasif), where she has 236,000 followers. Thirst trapping is the act of eliciting a response from specific targets, in her case - males, from social media posts.

Jade Rasif views thirst trapping as a form of entertainment on social media, in which she strategically uses her pictures to initiate contact with men who have caught her attention. Jade boasts a 99% success rate amongst those who she has targeted.[4]

Pregnancy

Jade Rasif had revealed that she was pregnant with a baby boy on the episode ‘The Cauliflower Episode’ on ‘Real Talk’ (Youtube video). Her reveal shocked many due to the unnoticeable baby bump she had 7.5 months into the pregnancy. Her unnoticeable baby bump led her pregnancy to be known as the ‘Six Pack Pregnancy’.

During her pregnancy, Jade made a video with her sister, Tyen Rasif, who had provided her with a suitable fitness plan.[5] According to the Youtube video, Jade focused on her core and lower back strength, did more cardio training, and followed a diet plan to consume more protein (Youtube video).

Modelling - TNP New Face 2013

Jade Rasif participated in The New Paper New Face competition (official website) in 2013. TNP New Face is an annual beauty pageant organised by The New Paper and presented by Subaru. Winners of the competition are awarded up to SGD$10,000 in cash.[9] Before the competition, Jade was insecure about her height and altered her diet to achieve a slimmer look so that she could appear taller.[10] However, she felt that she was never penalised for her height during the competition and instead, had gained confidence while learning from her other competitors.[11]

After the competition, she went on to further her career in modelling but eventually did not continue due to the judgements about her height she had faced during castings.[12] Subsequently, as an alumnus of New Face, she was part of the judging panel for New Face 2017.

Newsworthy incidents

Zouk and DJ Marshmello (2016)

In 2016, a dispute between Jade and her former resident club, Zouk, had arisen due to a misunderstanding during an Ultra Singapore after party. Jade had called out Zouk on social media about a DJ Marshmello imposter at the event that she believed Zouk had knowingly cheated their audience with. However, after a statement released by Zouk, it was clear that the person who had allegedly dressed up as DJ Marshmello was actually a club goer and was not condoned by Zouk. As a result, Jade had been dismissed from her residency at Zouk.[13]

Dave Rasif (2006)

Jade Rasif’s biological father, David Rasif, is an ex-lawyer and a fugitive wanted by Singapore. In 2006, he had absconded with SGD$11.3 million of his client’s money and managed to escape Singapore. He is still currently wanted by Singapore for this issue.[14]

In response to the incident, Jade mentioned that she has learnt to embrace the surname ‘Rasif’ as part of her identity. She confirmed that none of her family members have been in contact with David Rasif since he fled Singapore.[15]
