Gao Mei Gui (born 5 January 1991) is a Singaporean actress, host and full-time radio presenter with YES 933.[1] In 2006, Mei Gui was one of the Top 10 female finalists on the reality television singing competition Campus Superstar.[2][3] As of May 2020, she has 17,600 followers on Instagram.

Background

Early life

Growing up, Mei Gui favoured Mandarin pop music by artistes like Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun, Jolin Tsai, S.H.E., A-Mei, David Tao, Wang Lee Hom, Tanya Chua and JJ Lin.[4] In secondary school, she was involved in the Chinese Orchestra group and took part in singing competitions organised by the school.[5] Mei Gui is an alumnus of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) where she was a percussionist and vocalist.[6][7]

Campus Superstar (2006) - Top 10 finalist

In 2006, Mei Gui participated in the first season of Mediacorp Channel U’s televised singing competition Campus Superstar.[8][9] She was one of the Top 10 female student finalists, having won votes for her performances from the show's viewers.[10][11]

Early career

After graduating from Nanyang Technological University's Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information in 2012, Mei Gui joined Mediacorp as a staff member and became a part-time presenter with YES 933 - a Mandarin radio station that she grew up listening to.[12][13][14] Eventually, she became a full-time radio presenter at YES 933 where she has helmed solo shows.

Mei Gui was involved as a supporting character in Butterworks' 2018 film anthology 我们之间的故事 The Stories Between Us. She was featured in the first episode of the web series revolving around a group of junior college students. The project was a collaboration between Butterworks and YES 933.

In 2018, Mei Gui was one of the three hosts for the televised reality singing competition SPOP! Sing. The show's contestants were mentored by the established artistes Nathan Hartono, Joanna Dong and Boon Hui Lu.[25]

Mei Gui collaborated with Mandarin pop singer Marcus Lee to produce a cover of Karen Mok’s 慢慢喜歡你. The video of the duet was uploaded on Marcus’ YouTube channel on 30 September 2018.[35]
