Faris Samri (born c. 1992, age 32 as of August 2024)[1] is a Singaporean content creator, director, writer, and comedian known for his work with SGAG and Mothership, two of Singapore's top social media channels. As of 2026, he has amassed followers on 188k TikTok and 96k followers on Instagram.[2]

Describing himself as a content specialist proficient in writing, directing, and editing videos aimed to entertain and educate audiences on social media, Faris has become an expert at producing both long and short-form content that garners millions of views.[2]

Background & education

Faris Samri holds a Bachelor's degree in Design, which he completed between 2015 and 2018.[3] During his early career, he worked as a freelance motion designer, creating animations for various clients including musicians like Bakers In Space and Martin Spacely, educational institutions such as Singapore American School and Global Indian International School, as well as events like weddings and sports conventions.[2]

Faris's journey in content creation began as a means to cheer up a friend who had just broken up with his girlfriend. As he explained in an interview with Everyday People:[1]

"To get his mind off his ex, we got together and started making dumb and funny videos. I didn't even want to post our first video. We looked like fools. But since we went through the trouble of editing it, we posted it anyway. We didn't expect it to blow up!"

The unexpected success of their first video led them to continue creating and posting more content. Eventually, SGAG recognized their work and reached out to them.[1]

SGAG

Faris worked at SGAG for two years as a Senior Content Executive, where he literally got paid to "create nonsense content" every day.[1][4]

During his tenure at SGAG, one of his most notable achievements was directing the music video for SGAG's 2022 National Day song, "SG Pride." The theme of the song revolved around "feeling at home at the most unlikely places in Singapore" such as a nasi padang stall or a siam diu. His role included brainstorming for visuals, directing the cast and crew on set, and overseeing the edits until its launch on National Day.[2]

He also served as the lead show runner for SGAG's popular series "Work Mat, Not Hard." Each episode showcased creative methods of handling daily problems in various professions, essentially working mat (smart) instead of hard. His role included writing, acting, and editing all 10 episodes, three of which were sponsored.[2]

Mothership.sg

Faris worked at Mothership.sg, one of Singapore's most popular digital news and entertainment platforms that attracts more than 20 million page views a month from over 4.5 million unique users.[5] By 2023, Mothership had emerged as the most used online news source in Singapore, surpassing mainstream competitors CNA and The Straits Times.[5]

At Mothership, Faris was the lead show runner for the popular series "Cook From Home." The show was a response to the COVID-19 lockdown and featured himself as an amateur cook attempting recipes that were easy enough for viewers at home to follow. His role included ideating, editing, and filming all 15 episodes in his home kitchen.[2]

He also directed a feature on painting duo Ripple Root for a sponsored episode on Mothership's "Aiya Can One Lah" series. The video centered around Liquan and Estelle's journey in developing their original art style into a career of turning the walls of Singapore into their personal canvases. His role included writing, filming, interviewing, and editing the sponsored episode.[2]

The Matmigos

Faris makes up one-third of a creative trio called the Matmigos, a band of fellow creators who make a variety of short-form content.[2] Their Instagram account has over 29k followers[6] while their TikTok has over 88k followers[7] with their most popular video garnering over 3.4m views.[8]

The trio occasionally hits the streets of Orchard to interact with the public about trending topics or recent popular events. During the 2022 World Cup, the Matmigos brought football fever to the streets to test commuters on their skill at taking penalties.[2]

Commercial work

Faris has also worked on sponsored content for various brands. One notable project was writing and directing a sponsored video for the Jobs On Demand app. The video showcased the app by depicting how a man struggling to pay for his date's expensive dinner was able to work at short notice to cover the bill. His role included co-writing the script, directing the cast and crew on set, liaising with the client, and overseeing the video edits.[2]

His most popular video on TikTok amassed over 5.2m views and over 796k likes, a skit about a ghost chasing him after Ramadan.[9]

He has also been featured in an episode of Chaos On The Streets by Mediacorp, where he pretended to be a thrift store owner being rude to customers.[10]
