Chen Yixin was born on 26 April 2000 to the veteran Singaporean artistes Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun.[5][6] She recalled being bullied in secondary school for having famous parents. In an interview published on 8 Days, Chen Yixin shared that:

“They’d gossip that my parents used their fame to get me in the front row during dance performances, or that the teachers showed bias towards me ‘cos (sic) of my celeb parents. I was very affected by it, and life was quite hard for me in school. I didn’t know who to trust and I didn’t want to go to school.”[7]

She also has an older brother, actor Chen Yi Xi (born 1991).[8][9] Chen Yixin grew up with her fellow actress Tay Ying, who she remains close friends with.[10] They went to Shanghai together in 2018 to audition for an acting course at Motown, a Chinese entertainment academy.[11]

Education

Chen Yixin is an alumna of Singapore Polytechnic, where she studied Applied Drama and Psychology at the Media, Arts and Design School from 2017 to 2020.[12][13]

When asked about a cameo she made as a child actress in her father's short film, Echoing Love (2011), Chen Yixin was quoted to have said:

“The experience (acting) was terrifying. My face was so stiff. I don’t think I can act.”[14]

However, in October 2017, it was reported that Chen Yixin had signed with a local artiste management agency, Starlist.[15][16] The following is a timeline of Chen Yixin's acting experience over the years.

When Chen Yixin was nine years old, she cameoed alongside her brother, Yi Xi in Echoing Love (2011); an indie film directed by their father, Edmund Chen.[24] Both of them acted as the grandchildren of a grandmother who is appreciating her first day of retirement.[25]

While We Are Young (2017) - Channel 8

In November 2017, Chen Yixin made her formal acting debut in the Chinese drama, While We Are Young (2017) alongside fellow second-generation artistes such as Calvert Tay and Chantalle Ng.[26] She played Hong Yuanyuan, an aspiring singer.[27][28] Speaking about her audition for the drama, Chen Yixin said the following:

“Before the audition, I asked my parents for advice as I was very nervous. They told me to keep calm and not stress too much. They said that as long as I act myself, I’ll look natural. I don’t have to pretend that I’m someone else.”[29]

Life Less Ordinary (2018) - Channel 8

In January 2018, Chen Yixin made a cameo alongside her father in the long-form Chinese drama, Life Less Ordinary (2018).[30] She played the actress Ye Xin, who is also the daughter of the movie investor Ye Cheng Da (Edmund Chen).[31][32]

Social media influencer

In addition to being an actress, Chen Yixin has also collaborated with companies such as PUMA[33][34] and Aldo[35] to promote their products on social media.

Brand collaborations

In September 2019, she collaborated with PUMA for #PUMANSOFSG, a social campaign by PUMA aimed at getting people to interact with their augmented reality (AR) face filters on Instagram.[36][37] In the same month, she was also featured by the retail company, Aldo for their fall campaign.[38]
