Chan Hui Yuh (born 1976) is a Singaporean politician and the marketing director at Jingslink Marketing, a product supplier in the construction industry.[1][2] In June 2020, she was announced as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate for the 2020 General Elections and contested in Aljunied GRC.

Background

Outside of politics and business, Chan Hui Yuh has been working as a voiceover talent for television commercials, public announcement systems and corporate videos since 1995.[3] As of 2020, she is married with two children.

Education

Chan Hui Yuh was a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the United Kingdom from which she has received a Licentiate in Speech & Drama.[4][5] She also holds a bachelor of science from the University of Western Australia (UWA).[6]

Grassroots involvement & outreach

Chan Hui Yuh has been involved in grassroots work since 2000 when she started volunteering in Siglap.[7] She subsequently became the chairperson of the Siglap Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC).[8] She moved her work to Serangoon in April 2014[9] and by the 2015 General Elections, she was the chairperson of the PAP Serangoon branch in Aljunied GRC.[10][11] As of 2020, Chan Hui Yuh is the adviser to Aljunied GRC Grassroots Organisations.[12]

Politics

General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Aljunied GRC)

Chan Hui Yuh was introduced as a People's Action Party candidate on 26 June 2020.[13] According to a Channel News Asia article introducing the political candidates, Chan Hui Yuh is quoted to have said the following:

"I feel the Government must continue to listen and find new ways to meet the needs and aspirations of Singapore. I look forward to be able to help make the process, the system friendlier and easier for our citizens and businesses to get help to fulfil their daily needs, dreams and hopes."[14]

In her candidate introduction video, Chan Hui Yuh shared that she is "looking out" for women and the elderly through her work.[15] With 40 per cent of the votes, the Aljunied GRC PAP team lost to the Workers' Party team that was led by Pritam Singh.[16]

General Elections 2015

In 2015, Chan Hui Yuh was almost fielded as a PAP candidate for Aljunied GRC. However, she withdrew from the elections citing familial responsibilities as the reason for her withdrawal.[17]
