Alex Yeo Sheng Chye (born 1979) is a Singaporean politician and a lawyer.[1][2] In June 2020, he was unveiled as a People’s Action Party (PAP) candidate for the 2020 Singapore General Elections and is contesting for Aljunied GRC.[3][4]

Background

Aside from being admitted to the bar in Australia, Alex Yeo has also served as a Foreign Service Officer (Political) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).[5] In 2012, he was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.[6] As of 2020, he is the director of a law firm, Niru & Co LLC.[7]

Education

Alex Yeo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and a law degree from the University of Sydney in New South Wales.[8] He later received his Master's degree in public administration at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in NUS.[9]

People's Action Party (PAP) - Grassroots involvement

Potong Pasir

Alex Yeo started as a grassroots volunteer in Potong Pasir in 2014, before becoming a grassroots leader in 2015.[10] He was the PAP branch secretary and the vice-chairman of the Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC) in Potong Pasir.[11]

General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Aljunied GRC)

Alex Yeo was introduced as People's Action Party (PAP) candidate on 26 June 2020.[14] According to the PAP website, his vision is to:  

"[Act] Beyond the Call of Duty, otherwise known as the ABCD spirit – it is a motto that left a deep imprint on me while I was serving at Potong Pasir and I have since brought it with me to Paya Lebar."[15]
