Early life

Rachel struggled with mental health and developed eating disorders during her secondary school days having been bullied by her peers. At one point in time, she only weighed 35kg.[3] She struggled to concentrate in class and could not perform well in school. At the time, Rachel did not know that she had ADHD.[4][5] She was only diagnosed during her late teens.[6]

Rachel started modelling for blogshops at 19 years old.[7] Aside from modelling, she took up part-time jobs at Sogurt and ice cream stores. At one point in time, she also worked as a retail assistant for a Cheongsam store at Centrepoint. It was here that she learned how to alter clothing.[8]

Education

Rachel Wong furthered her studies at LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore.[9] She graduated with a Diploma in Fashion Communications.[10]

Rachel pursued a full-time career in blogging and social media after she graduated from LASALLE with a Diploma in Fashion Communications.[11]

Brand endorsements

After building her online presence over the years, Rachel has received opportunities to work with large beauty brands such as Dior,[12] Clinique,[13] Sephora[14] and  Estée Lauder.[15][16] Her “Hypebae” sense of style attracted sponsorships[17] from fashion brands  like G-SHOCK,[18] Tommy Hilfiger,[19] Kenzo[20][21] and Zara.[22][23] In a 2017 interview with Alvinology, Rachel cited Rihanna as her style inspiration.[24]

Leaving Gushcloud (2015)

Rachel left Gushcloud on 5 January 2015.[25] She made the decision following Gushcloud’s controversial marketing campaign for Singtel which involved bad-mouthing rival telcos M1 and Starhub.[26] Rachel sought to dissociate herself from  the company stating that Gushcloud’s “moral values are not in line” with hers.[27]

Plastic surgery

Speculations

These allegations started as early as 2013 when social media users would speculate on her looks in the comments section.[29]

Rachel Wong's clarification (2019)

Although many have accused Rachel Wong of undergoing plastic surgery, she claims that she had not done any invasive procedures.[30] However, she did admit that she had undergone non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as fillers and botox injections.[31]

Love life: "Boyfriend-stealing" saga

This incident involved Rachel Wong, Daryl and Singaporean blogger Tammy Tay.

Origins of the saga

Rachel met Daryl through her good friend Alissa when she was studying at Lasalle College of the Arts.[32] At the time, Rachel had found out that her ex-boyfriend of three years had cheated on her during their relationship. This made it easy for her to fall for Daryl.[33] Rachel claimed that although Alissa liked Daryl romantically, the two were never in a relationship.[34]

Rachel’s relationship with Daryl was made public when she posted a picture of Daryl on her social media while intoxicated. This incited a reaction from blogger Tammy Tay who was Daryl’s ex-girlfriend.[35]

Tammy Tay's response

Tammy published a blog post titled “Girlfriend Code” which resulted in a very public conflict between the two bloggers.[36][37] She expressed her discontent with Rachel stating:

“There’s one thing I absolutely cannot stand. That is good friends sharing the same boy”.[38]

According to Rachel, she received malicious comments on social media following Tammy’s blogpost. Her family members had also been the target of online hate. Rachel’s mother received messages questioning Rachel's upbringing.[39]

After the online saga, the relationship between Rachel and Daryl lasted for 3 years before she ended it.[40]
