Elizabeth “Liz” Sergeant Tan (also credited professionally as Liz Sergeant Tan) is a Singaporean theatre actress, dancer, choreographer and arts practitioner known for her work in contemporary performance and theatre productions.[1][2] Liz gained wider public attention in 2025 following her engagement to Singaporean singer‑songwriter and actor Nathan Hartono, which brought broader media recognition to her personal profile and artistic work.[2]

Early life and family

Liz Sergeant Tan is the daughter of the late Christina Sergeant, a respected theatre director, actress and arts educator who was recognised as one of the pioneers of Singapore’s theatre scene before her passing in 2013.[1]

Theatre and performance

After graduating, Liz built a career as a freelance performer, choreographer and theatre artist. Her creative output spans collaboration with prominent Singaporean theatre companies, experimental performance works, festivals, and independent productions.[3]

Her early performance credits include participation in productions showcased at Arts House Singapore such as Manifest (January 2014) and Floating Bones (July 2014), where she performed while still developing her craft and exploring a range of physical and ensemble techniques.[3] Liz’s professional repertoire also includes more experimental and contemporary projects in the Singapore theatre circuit. She has worked with companies and festivals including Chowk Productions, Esplanade–Theatres on the Bay, M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, and other independent production platforms.[3] Her notable recent work includes roles as co‑director, choreographer and performer in the 2024 Singaporean short dance film I Summon You, which was screened at the youth festival comma hosted at the lifestyle hub Scape.[1]

Liz has also appeared in physical and puppetry‑focused performances such as The Finger Players’ Puppet Origin Stories @ One‑Two‑Six: Only Puppets in the Building (November). In prior seasons, she was featured in productions like Devil’s Cherry at the 2022 Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), demonstrating her adaptability between dramatic theatre, movement, and avant‑garde performance contexts.[1]

Engagement to Nathan Hartono

In December 2025, Liz Sergeant Tan became a subject of public interest beyond the arts community when Nathan Hartono, a well‑known Singaporean singer‑songwriter and actor, announced their engagement on social media. They shared a personal proposal moment on Instagram on 14 December 2025, capturing a video of Hartono kneeling with a ring during a night picnic that included their two pet cats.[5] In the caption, Hartono framed the moment as both an engagement announcement and a “hard launch” of their relationship, a term referring to making a romantic partnership public on social media.[5]

On 17 January 2026, Hartono and Tan officially became husband and wife. The couple shared images and videos from their wedding day on social media, including moments of them holding their marriage certificate and celebrating with close friends and guests. The wedding celebrations were noted for their relaxed and joyful atmosphere, with Hartono expressing appreciation for his “support crew” and sharing candid photos of the festivities.[4] Local entertainers and personalities, including Singaporean singers and actors, were among those who attended the ceremony.[4]
