Mad About Sucre is a Singapore-based patisserie and restaurant known for its French-inspired haute desserts, pan-European cuisine, and creative gastronomic presentations. Located at 27 Teo Hong Road near the Outram Park area, it has been highlighted for its artistry in both savoury dishes and cakes.[1][2]

Founding & Concept

The establishment is helmed by the Chan family: pastry chef Lena Chan (trained at Le Cordon Bleu) designs the desserts, while her brother Eric Chan leads the savoury and restaurant side of the business.[2][3] Their concept emphasises natural ingredients (e.g., unprocessed raw sugars, organic flour), minimal artificial flavouring & colouring, and high-craft pastry techniques.[1][4]

Menu & signature offerings

Mad About Sucre offers a dual experience of full dining and patisserie. On the savoury side, menus previously included dishes such as baked Irish oysters with kombu butter, French foie gras with prawns, slow-cooked oxtail in Burgundy, and vegetarian baked cauliflower with brown-butter stew.[1] On the dessert front, iconic items include mousse cakes shaped like fruits (e.g., “Hey Peachy”, “Good Arvo”), made without additives and designed for visual & taste impact.[1][2]

It has earned positive reviews for its creativity, plating, service and desserts. For example, guests on TripAdvisor noted the exceptional desserts and stylish interior, though some mention the premium pricing and, in rare cases, service shortcomings.[5]

Media coverage

In October 2023, Mad About Sucre’s pastry chef Lena Chan was featured in an interview about how her eldest son’s food allergies inspired the creation of low-sugar, additive-free pastry lines at the brand, reinforcing the bakery’s reputation for ingredient mindfulness.[3]

Mad About Sucre’s pastries have also been featured by various influencers, notably by Catherine Zhang, a renowned pastry chef that is partnered with a famous dessert shop in Los Angeles, America named Tu Cha.[6]

Closure

Despite its acclaim, Mad About Sucre announced on 25 May 2025 that it would be closing its chapter at the 27 Teo Hong Road premises, with a last day of service indicated as 20 June 2025 per its Facebook page.[7]

Many fans expressed their sadness in closing, with some asking if they were still doing customised cake but it has since been confirmed that they have ceased all operations. [8]
