On 26 August 2025, Genie Yamaguchi pleaded guilty in court to shoplifting 27 items, mainly makeup, skincare, and food items, from the Don Don Donki supermarket at the Orchard Central outlet.[3]

The theft occurred in the early hours of 25 August 2024, between approximately 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., when Yamaguchi and a friend—named Lee Suet Keay (Cheryl)—placed the items in a shopping cart and left without paying.[3][4]

CCTV footage recorded the incident; a staff member recognized the duo later and alerted the manager, who then reported the incident to the police.[3][4]

Details of stolen items and restitution

The total value of the stolen items was S$628.90. Among them were:

  • A Sanrio tote bag (Cinnamoroll design) valued at S$67.90[3]
  • A Colorrose blush (Queen’s Cameo Blush 02 Elegant Moon) at S$30.90[3]
  • Two Melano CC Vitamin C serums at S$25 each[3]
  • Food snacks and other beauty items

Only nine of the stolen items were returned upon arrest; Yamaguchi compensated Don Don Donki for the remaining items later.[3][4]

Legal proceedings and charges

At the time of the court proceedings, Yamaguchi had no prior criminal record.[3] The prosecution requested an assessment of her suitability for a Day Reporting Order (DRO)—a community-based sentence involving regular reporting for counselling, monitoring, and rehabilitation.[3][4]

Co-accused and additional charges

Yamaguchi’s friend, Lee Suet Keay (aged 29), faces additional charges beyond the Don Don Donki incident:

  • Allegedly stole a pair of Crocs slippers (≈ S$90.97) from Watsons at Suntec City (23 August 2024)[3]
  • Allegedly stole a Starbucks tumbler (≈ S$44.90) from Jurong Point (27 August 2024)[3]
  • Allegedly stole goods valued at over S$3,296.50 from Mustafa Centre (28 April 2025)[3]

Her case was scheduled to be heard on 1 September 2025.[3]
