Xie Yao Quan (Singapore Politician)
Xie Yao Quan (born 1985) is a Singaporean politician and the head of healthcare redesign at Alexandra Hospital.[1] He was announced as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate for the 2020 General Elections on 29 June 2020 in light of Ivan Lim's withdrawal.[2] He contested in Jurong GRC. As of 10 July 2020, he is an elected Member of Parliament (MP).

Background
Xie Yao Quan is a board member on SG Enable, an agency helping disabled individuals in Singapore.[3] He is the co-chair for the i’mable initiative, an SG Enable project created to uplift disabled artists and makers.[4][5] He is also a part of the Merdeka Generation Communications and Engagement Taskforce that reaches out to individuals born between 1950 and 1959.[6] Before entering public healthcare, Xie Yao Quan worked for an investment company and the Singapore Armed forces.
Early life & family
Xie Yao Quan is the younger cousin of the Minister of Education, Ong Ye Kung.[7] Their mothers are sisters and the two had played together when they were children. As of 2020, Xie Yao Quan is married.
Education
Xie Yao Quan graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. He then received a master's degree in Engineering Management from the university.[8]

Xie Yao Quan has been volunteering in Jurong GRC since 2015.[9][10]
Politics
General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Jurong GRC)
Following Ivan Lim's resignation as a political candidate, Xie Yao Quan was introduced as his replacement in Jurong GRC.[11] According to the PAP website, he says:
"We need to listen deeply to residents and bring their suggestions together to improve lives and build a better home. There is so much energy and wisdom in the community."[12]
The People's Action Party team won Jurong GRC with 74.62 per cent of the votes.[13]
