Vanessa Vanderstraaten
Vanessa Vanderstraaten (born 24 July 1988) is a Singaporean actress under FLY Entertainment.[1] She is best known for her works in Marco Polo produced by Netflix in 2014 and her lead role in Lion Moms by Mediacorp in 2015.[1]

Background
Personal life
Vanessa Vanderstraaten is the older of the two siblings in the Vanderstraaten family. Her brother Justin Vanderstraaten was known for being in a relationship with Singaporean actress and host Rosalyn Lee for about two years.[2] Her father is James Vanderstraaten and her step-mother is Judy Goh.[3]
Her ethnicity is Chinese, Dutch/Sabahan and British.[4] In an article published by AsiaOne in 2016, Vanessa revealed that she'd been battling with hyperthyroidism since early 2015.[5]
"I found myself in situations where I'd be complimented on how slim I was, and when I tried to explain that I had hyperthyroidism and was on medication, I'd get inappropriate responses like 'You're so lucky! Now you can eat whatever you want.' It was bizarre."[5]
Relationship with Andrew Lua
Vanessa Vanderstraaten started a relationship with her fellow FLY Entertainment artiste Andrew Lua back in 2014.[6] As of 2022, it is not known if the couple are still together.
Education
Vanderstraaten graduated from NTU in 2011 where she majored in English Literature and minored in Drama and Performance.[1]
Career
Theatre Works (2010 - 2012)
Vanessa Vanderstraaten was a part of the Singapore Repertory Theatre's Young Company from 2010 to 2012. In that time, she trained under Daniel Jenkins.[1] In that time, she's been a part of threatrical productions such as "Love & Other Oddities" under Theatre Lab Productions, "Ai Si" under Little Red Shop, and Grimm Tales under Singapore Repertory Theatre amongst others.[1]
Host & Presenter (2012-present)
Vanderstraaten has taken on the roles of host and presenter for live events and national television, respectively. Some of her more prominent gigs include her time as co-host on the "first season of local singing competition The Final 1 (Mediacorp, 2014)" and The Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SuperSports Arena, 2012 and 2013).
She has worked with brands such as Vichy, Sephora and Marina Bay Sands as a live event host.[1][7]
Actress & Screenwriter (2012- Present)
Vanderstraaten gained recognition in the local acting scene in 2013 with Ken Kwek’s movie Sex.Violence.Family Values.[1] Since then, she's acted in numerous TV dramas and webseries from The Fifth Floor (2018) to Code of Law, Spouse for House and Lion Mums (2015).
Some of her more recognised works are her role in the first season of Netflix’s Marco Polo in 2014, as well as her recurring role across the seasons of Lion Mums produced by Mediacorp.[1]
She is also a screenwriter, having first started with the rom-com series @StarCrossed. She's also written episodes for The Deep End, The Fifth Floor, Titoudao: Inspired by the True Story of a Wayang Star, The Teenage Textbook Returns, and even Lion Mums 4.[8][9]
Nightjar Films (2022 - Present)
Vanessa Vanderstraaten is the co-founder of Nightjar Films, a film production company established in 2022. Her other co-founders include Yeo Lay Har, an executive producer and director with over 20 years of experience and Jason Godfrey, an experienced screenwriter of 7 years.[10] They were one of the top 5 finalists for Mediacorp’s Creative Assembly 2022.[11]
