Politics
General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Marine Parade GRC)
Nathaniel Koh was introduced as a Workers’ Party (WP) candidate on 27 June 2020.[23][24] In a Facebook video published on 27 June 2020, he explained that he joined the WP because:
“I believe that for Singapore to succeed in the long-term, we need to build a strong credible alternative voice in Parliament.”[25]
Nathaniel Koh intends to champion family-friendly policies that will increase the fertility rate in Singapore.[26][27] According to his profile on the WP website, his hope for Singapore is:[28]
1. Rekindle our sense of space. As we pride ourselves as a city in a garden, every plot of land need not be developed into another shopping mall or housing project. Green lungs should be well-maintained for the enjoyment and imagination of Singaporeans.
2. Rejuvenate our sense of belonging. Singaporeans offering differing points of view from the government should feel like equal partners in the common cause of Singapore’s success.
3. Revitalise our sense of mission. Our pioneers made it their mission to make Singapore succeed against all odds after independence was thrust upon us. Let us discover a new mission, a fresh sense of purpose for Singaporeans to rally around.
With 42.24 per cent of the votes, the Workers' Party team lost Marine Parade GRC to the People's Action Party team led by Tan Chuan Jin.[29]
