Karyn Wong

Karyn Wong (also known by her stage name Karyn Shimin or 黄诗敏) is a Singaporean bilingual emcee, host, singer, and content creator. She combines her talents in hosting, singing, and acting, and is active in both Mandarin and English media spaces. Karyn frequently posts about her busking performances on her Youtube channel that has 8.82k subscribers as of 2025.[1] She also posts about her daily life, events and her busking performances on her Instagram and TikTok, which has 38.7k and 58.5k followers respectively.[2][3]

Education

Wong attended Temasek Junior College from 2006 to 2007. She subsequently pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing at the Singapore Management University (SMU), graduating in 2012. During her university studies, she participated in a business exchange programme with FH Joanneum.[4]

Personal life

According to her artiste profile on FLY Entertainment, Karyn stands at 168 cm (5′5″). She is skilled as a host, singer, radio DJ, and actor, and is fluent in English and Mandarin. Her artistic hobbies include playing keyboard, ukulele, guitar, and she also holds proficiency in diving.[5]

Her official personal website and biography mention that she began her music presence as a busker (street performer) in Singapore, singing with keyboard accompaniment. It was this musical exposure that led to attention from Mediacorp and elevated her profile in the local entertainment scene.[6]

Wong's professional career began in marketing and social media roles within the food and beverage industry. She was a Marketing Executive at Robert Parker Wine Advocate from 2017 to 2018, before serving as a Social Media Manager for the Michelin Guide Digital from 2018 to 2019.[4]

From 2019 to 2022, she worked as a Marketing Manager for Wine Portal Holding.

Wong transitioned into broadcasting and has been working as a Radio Presenter with Mediacorp since 2022. Since 2023, she has also been a bilingual emcee represented by FLY Entertainment.[4]

Career in media work

aryn Wong’s career spans hosting, acting, singing, and DJ work. She serves as one of the main hosts on Mediacorp’s The Wonder Shop, working alongside veteran hosts such as Guo Liang, Vivian Lai, and Yangguang Kele.[7] In 2022, she took on an acting role in Jack Neo’s film Ah Girls Go Army, playing the character Karen Seow as part of the ensemble cast in this Singaporean military comedy.[4][6]

In her musical endeavors, Karyn performs live as a singer-songwriter and keyboardist. Her busking and live music performances contributed to her nomination for Best Rising Star at the Star Awards 2024, reflecting her growing visibility in the entertainment scene.[6] She is also active as an emcee, hosting events in both English and Mandarin, and works as a part-time DJ on Mediacorp Love 97.2FM during weekends.[6][8]

Notable roles

Karyn is one of the main hosts on Mediacorp’s variety show The Wonder Shop.[5] She also served as host (alongside more established names) on the Mediacorp show Battle of the Buskers from July to November 2023.[5] Additionally, she works part-time as a radio DJ at Mediacorp Love 97.2FM, filling relief shifts during morning and evening drive times.[5]

In 2022, she acted in Ah Girls Go Army, a Singaporean film directed by Jack Neo. In that film, she portrayed the character Karen Seow.[9]

Karyn has also released original music. For example, from her biography page, her song “Little Dumpling (小饺子)” is listed as an original track.[6]

Media coverage

Wong was featured in a Mediacorp YouTube series, #justswipelah, giving a tour of her new 4-room HDB flat to host Jernelle Oh.[9] Karyn and her husband lived for several years in a utility room before upgrading to a full BTO flat in Singapore. Her nomination for Best Rising Star at Star Awards 2024 was also publicised as part of her professional recognition in the Singapore entertainment industry.[6] Her role in Ah Girls Go Army is often cited in cast listings and promotional materials, credited under her name Karyn Wong Shimin among other cast members of the film.[9]

She has also appeared on Mediacorp's The Sheng Siong Show in 2024, singing a cover of "花花世界" which was originally sung by Hebe Tian.[11]
