Politics

General Elections 2020 - Candidate (Punggol West SMC)

Tan Chen Chen was introduced as a Workers’ Party (WP) candidate on 27 June 2020.[15][16] She says:

“I want to change Singaporeans’ lives for the better through practical action, and not oppose for the sake of opposing,”[17]

Tan Chen Chen recognises that rising housing prices is an important concern for young adults in Singapore and that she would like to bring attention to this issue in Parliament.[18][19] According to her profile on the WP website, her hopes for Singapore are:[20]

1. That our people recognise that an elected opposition presence in Parliament is critical. All Singaporeans, no matter their political persuasion or preference, should be represented in Singapore’s highest law-making body.
2. That a rational and respectable opposition grows its presence in Parliament to provide responsible competition to the PAP, thereby ensuring a robust system of checks and balances for the good of Singapore and Singaporeans.
3. That Singaporeans take a deep interest in the country, their communities and neighbours, and speak to one another with kindness and empathy, even those who may disagree with them.
