Details of the incident

The doll, pale and dirty, wore a pink lace dress and was conspicuously blindfolded with a white cloth that had the Arabic phrase “Bismillah” (“In the name of God”). Rumors speculated that the owner binded the eyes so the doll and left it far away so that the doll wouldn’t follow her back.[1]

The photo spread like wildfire online, notably on platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, where curious people started coming up with theories of the supernatural. Some interpreted the blindfold as a means to contain or suppress something evil, such as a jinn or a curse within the doll.

However, the original poster went on to edit his post saying that nothing should be taken seriously as he does not have proof and that it was all speculation from the internet.[2]

Theories, speculations and disappearance

According to the speculations online, the doll is rumored to be possessed, capable of moving its limbs on its own when left unattended. Some people even claimed that the doll is capable of speaking, using the voice of an adult female speaking in Malay.

Someone soon took the doll away from the tree, and removed the blind from the doll's eyes before posting a photo of it online. This is followed by an eerie response by a netizen: “We bind it for a reason. Stupid people unbind it. It looks unhappy—good luck to whoever did it.”[1]
