Tiffany “No Chill” Teo is a professional Singaporean MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter. She is well-versed in Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing. Following her third official MMA fight in 2016 — all with consecutive wins, Tiffany was approached by ONE Championship and claimed her debut win on her birthday.[1] She had beaten former Egyptian national boxing champion, Walaa “Katyusha” Abbas on home ground at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.[2][3]
Background
Born on 11 November 1989 as Tiffany Teo Hui Hoon, Tiffany was born in Brunei but raised in Singapore.[4][5]
Education & early career
Tiffany Teo went to Greenview Secondary School before enrolling in Serangoon Junior College.[6][7][8] In late 2012, Tiffany completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University at Buffalo (SIM).[9] Following her graduation from UB (SIM), Tiffany embarked on the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain where she hiked a total of over 800 kilometres.
Before pursuing MMA fighting full-time, Tiffany was a Research Assistant with A*STAR and also a behavioural therapist. To fund her passion, Tiffany began teaching yoga after obtaining her certification as a yoga instructor.[10][11][12]
Martial arts
During her time in school, Tiffany was not fond of the outdoors. She would come up with excuses to skip PE classes. She joined choir as a CCA (co-curricular activity) in primary and secondary as she considered it at “an easy” CCA.[13] Tiffany picked up Taekwondo in 2008 while awaiting her GCE A-Level examination results. Her interest in martial arts was piqued when she had watched reality television fighting series, “The Contender Asia”.[14]
Tiffany then picked up Muay Thai at Vanda Boxing Gym as a way to keep fit. After a few months of training, her coach suggested for her to fight in a competition held in Thailand. Tiffany rejected the idea of pursuing the sport professionally due to other commitments like completing her undergraduate studies.[15]
Early fights
After obtaining her degree, Tiffany began training at Juggernaut Gym. She wanted to call it quits after experiencing her first muay thai fight. Despite losing the fight, the sport had ignited a passion within her and she began to pick up boxing.[16]
Tiffany won her first boxing match, defeating Efasha Kamarudin and earning a place on the national boxing team. In 2016, Tiffany won her first professional debut at the second Singapore Fighting Championship (SFC) event.[17] In 2017, Tiffany went on to train at Team Highlight and attained a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.[18][19][20]
Career highlights
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
As a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Tiffany has won various tournaments including the 2019 Manila International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the 2017 Johor International Jiu-Jitsu Championship.[21][22][23][24][25][26] Tiffany’s signature moves include the triangle choke, wristlock and D’arce choke.[27]
