Ma Yi Duo (real name Kelvin Tan) is a Singaporean entrepreneur, content creator, comedian, actor, and director. He is best known by his online persona “Ma Yi Duo” (马一朵). He co-founded Double Up with Charlene Huang and is also the founder of his own interior design firm, SG Interior Design. Tan is active in social media, mainly his Instagram and TikTok, where he has amassed 102k and 149k followers respectively.[1][2] He regularly posts about his daily life, funny skits, brand promotions and also his interior design firm on his social media accounts.

Early life and background

Kelvin Tan was born and raised in Singapore and exhibited entrepreneurial drive from a young age. According to interviews, he began exploring business ventures during his teenage years— including reselling handbags and running a T-shirt printing business—as he sought to break out of financial constraints.[3]

He has also trained under an interior design firm for ~9 months to learn the trade before launching his own interior design business.[3][4]

Personal life

He is married to Angie Teo; the couple met in secondary school.[3]They have children: their daughter Ethel was announced in January 2025.[5] In August 2024, Tan revealed that his wife was expecting their second child.[6]

Ma Yi Duo also featured his 4-room HDB BTO on his company’s (Double Up) Youtube channel.[7]

Ma Yi Duo revealed that he and his wife balloted for a BTO flat for two years before successfully booking one in Punggol in the February 2017 sales exercise.[8] They chose Punggol due to "less competition" and it being a "younger neighbourhood"[8] The couple plans to move to private property, "minimally a condo for asset progression," after fulfilling the five-year Minimum Occupation Period.[8]

The S$40,000 renovation cost was possible due to a collaboration between his media company, Double Up Media, and his interior design firm, SG Interior KJ.[8] He noted the renovation would have cost around S$130,000 "in a normal circumstance" without sponsored items.[8]

Content creation & directorial work

In 2019, Tan co-founded Double Up Media with Charlene Huang to address the lack of independent Mandarin comedy content in Singapore. Their comedy sketches, known for being loud and relatable portrayals of everyday Singaporean life, gained significant popularity and laid the foundation for their expansion into filmmaking.[3] Tan wrote, directed, and starred in the feature film "Aunty Follow La", a comedy about a hawker who becomes an influencer, which was released in June 2025. The film was produced with a budget of ~S$1.3 million, in collaboration between Double Up Media and mm2 Entertainment. Earlier, he had announced another film project, Aunty Like, Aunty Subscribe! (Chinese title: Aunty当网红), featuring influencers and centering on a hawker/fishball stall owner who becomes an influencer.[4][9]

He is also involved in the upcoming Singapore-Thailand co-production "3 Good Guys", a romantic comedy where he will appear alongside other influencers and established Thai stars. [4][9][10]

Tan has also expressed a desire to kick-start what he calls “Singapore Movies 2.0”, bridging content creators and cinema, encouraging new voices, and making film more accessible to digital creators.[9] He often works in comedy but has indicated interest in exploring other genres (e.g. fantasy, action) in future projects.[4][9]

Interior design & other ventures

Beyond media, Ma founded the interior design firm SG Interior KJ. In a notable marketing strategy, he renovated his own HDB flat by arranging for contractors to work in exchange for promotional exposure, showcasing his company's capabilities.[4]

He has also run (or co-run) a printing business, which his wife Angela Teo helps manage.[3][4] In 2024, Tan made headlines for gifting Rolex watches (worth ~S$150,000) to seven of his best-performing staff at SG Interior KJ.[11]

Notable moments

At the Shopee 9.9 livestream event, Tan promised to bungee jump 47 m if he met a sales target. He succeeded and completed the jump at Sentosa.[12]

In a period of business losses, Tan reportedly lost ~S$200,000 in a venture. During that time, he recounted sitting on a staircase for seven days, chain smoking as he dealt with stress.[13]

In January 2024, while in Japan at Legoland Osaka, he experienced an earthquake while “taking a dump” and documented the experience.[14]
