Rachel Ong Sin Yen (born 1973) is a Singapore politician and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ROHEI. She is also the chairman of Trybe, a charity that helps youths in crisis.[1][2] In June 2020, she was announced as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate for the 2020 Singapore General Elections and contested in West Coast GRC.[3]
Background
Rachel Ong started working for the social service agency, Trybe in 2001 that runs the Singapore Boys Hostel, Community Rehabilitation Centre and Trybe Aftercare.[4][5] In 2007, she founded ROHEI, a learning and consultancy firm that promotes positive workplace culture and leadership development.[6] A portion of the company’s monthly profits is set aside for helping the less privileged.[7]
Personal life & family
As of 2020, Rachel Ong is not married and lives with her parents.[8] She has one sister.[9]
Education
Rachel Ong was a student at CHIJ St Joseph's Secondary School.[10] She completed her pre-university studies in Canada at Columbia College and furthered her studies at Southern Illinois University in the United States of America.[11]
Post-graduate studies
Rachel Ong holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from INSEAD-Tsinghua University.[12]
Community & grassroots outreach
Aside from volunteering with the People's Action Party (PAP) since young,[13] Rachel Ong has also served as the vice-chairman of the Telok Blangah Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC).[14]
Politics
General Elections 2020 - Candidate (West Coast GRC)
Rachel Ong was introduced as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate on 26 June 2020.[15] On the party’s website, she says that:
"I am grateful that I get to do things that energise me, together with different teams of people I love, for the people we serve."[16]
The People's Action Party team won West Coast GRC with 51.69 of the votes.[17]
