Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah (born 1978) is a senior lecturer at Republic Polytechnic and the former chairman of Al-Islah mosque in Punggol.[1] In June 2020, he was announced as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate in the 2020 General Elections.[2]

Education

In secondary school, Wan Rizal was a student in the Normal Academic stream.[6] He then enrolled in Temasek Polytechnic, obtaining a diploma before joining the National Institute of Education (NIE).[7] He graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a degree in physical education in 2009.[8] In 2015, Wan Rizal obtained a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Sports Science from the university.[9] He started his PhD studies as a part-time Masters degree student in 2009 before converting to a full-time PhD student in 2010.[10]

Grassroots leader

Wan Rizal has been involved in community work since 2010 when he was appointed as the chairman of a mosque building committee for the Al-Islah mosque.[11] Apart from being the chairman, he has also been involved in Punggol's Interracial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC).[12]
