Chuando Tan (born 3 March 1966) is a Singaporean public figure who is known for his modelling and photography work in the fashion industry. He is also the founder of the international modelling agency, AVE Management. Since creating his Instagram account in February 2015, he has gained 1,100,000 followers as of June 2020.

Background

In July 2017, Chuando made local and international headlines when a Chinese news site broke a viral story featuring his Instagram profile.[1] His youthful looks and physique despite his age were well-received by publications like The New York Post[2] and The Daily Mail.[3]

Chuando was born in Singapore where he grew up in Toa Payoh.[4] His father was the late Chinese ink artist, Tan Tee Chie who passed away on 29 January 2011.[5][6] Chuando's mother passed a few years earlier in 1997.[7] He has an older sister, Dan Nian, and an older brother, Chuan Da.[8] In an interview with 8Days Singapore published in September 2017, ChuanDo shared that he had a good relationship with his father. He says:

"I looked up to him a lot. He did right by everything to be a good father, husband and teacher. I don’t see anything bad in him at all."[9]

Chuando grew up being surrounded by art and literature. In an interview with 8Days Singapore in the 1990s, his late father shared that their family flat in Toa Payoh was filled with "... all kinds of literature: the collected works of Lu Xun, art books, magazines".[10]

Education

Chuando went to Nanyang Primary School. He completed his GCE 'O' level examinations at Pei Dao Secondary school.[11] Before graduating with a diploma from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1992,[12][13] Chuando was a private pre-university student.[14]

Fashion

ChuanDo joined the fashion industry as a model during his teenage years. Since retiring from commercial and professional modelling, he has established a career as a fashion photographer. As of June 2020, he also runs the modelling agency, Ave Management.

ChuanDo & Frey - Fashion photographer (2006 - present day)

Chuando co-founded the photography firm, ChuanDo & Frey with Frey Ow in 2006. The duo first met at a Metro commercial shoot when Chuando was already a photographer. Frey worked as Chuando's assistant for eight years before the two established a partnership.[15] Over the years, Chuando and Frey have worked with clients ranging from musicians like Janet Jackson and Rita Ora to public figures like Maggie Q and Angela Yeung Wing (Angelababy).[16][17] Their work has been featured in notable fashion publications like L'Officiel Singapore[18] and Esquire.[19]

AVE Management - Founder (2004 - present day)

According to the business' website, AVE Management was founded in 2004 by Chuando and Frey.[20] The model management company has discovered Singaporean models such as Serene Chew and Colin Wee who both broke into the international high-fashion industry under AVE Management's representation.[21]

Carrie Models - Model (1981 - 1996)

Chuando started modelling at 16 years old.[22] He was managed by the modelling agency, Carrie Models and scored gigs with name brands such as Tangs and Metro who engaged him for their advertisements.[23] By the end of his modeling career in the 1990s, Chuando had also modelled for international shows in Milan, Italy.[24]

Show business

Chuando dabbled in the show business industry during his twenties. He was a Mandopop singer under the stage name, Chen Yufei.[25][26] In April 2018, Chuando relocated to China to explore opportunities in acting.[27]
