Education | Bachelor of Applied Science (Sports Coaching and Administration) |
Alma mater | UWCSEA, Deakin University |
Paul Foster (born 15 December 1980) is a Singaporean actor and host.[1] The start of his professional career dates back to 2002, when he first appeared in a television reality series titled The Big Unknown.[2] Since then, Paul has been no stranger in local show business having scored roles in shows like Polo Boys (2009) and Mata Mata (2013).[3][4] On social media (Instagram), he uses his following to raise awareness on environmental issues and animal welfare.[5][6]
Background
Early life & family
Paul is of British-Peranakan heritage. Born to Len and Joyce Foster on 15 December 1980, he has one younger biological sister and three older half-sisters from his mother’s previous marriage.[7]
Paul has described his childhood as a safe and easy one, noting that he was an outdoorsy child and that his family often took vacations.[8] Unfortunately, Paul’s father passed away from cancer in 1999.[9] At the time, Paul had been in the midst of his International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations. His father's death pushed him to assume more household responsibilities on top of managing his studies.[10][11]
During his time in National Service (NS), Paul was a Lance Corporal. His main duty was to guard the Changi Naval Base alongside his peers in the 608 Squadron.[12]
Education
Paul studied at the United World College of Southeast Asia (UWCSEA) in Singapore from 1992 to 1999.[13] After finishing his NS, he enrolled in Deakin University, Australia. He returned to Singapore after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science (Sports Coaching and Administration).[14] It was during his time at Deakin University that he filmed his first show, The Big Unknown (2002).[15]
Relationships
Relationship with Joey (2019 - Present day)
As of March 2020, Paul is in a committed relationship with Joey.[16] They live together with three cats - Moshi, Bongo and Jewel - and a husky named Bam Bam.[17][18] Before this, he has had four serious girlfriends[19] - out of which his relationship with Jenna Sendall was the most public.[20]
Relationship with Jenna Sendall (2013 - 2018)
Paul and Jenna dated for five years before they went their separate ways.[21] They had met when Jenna was on a six-month exchange programme at Singapore Management University (SMU).[22] After five years in Singapore where she had worked as a restaurant manager at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen,[23] Jenna decided that she wanted to move back to Canada. Paul had been prepared to relocate to Vancouver with Jenna but she eventually told him not to.[24] The couple ended their relationship amicably after realising that a break-up was inevitable.[25]
Acting & TV hosting
Paul made his debut on Singaporean television in 2002, when he starred in the reality show The Big Unknown.[26] This role landed him several modelling jobs, which he continued to pursue upon his return to Singapore in 2005.[27] Paul has been on the covers of local magazines like Men’s Health and Cosmopolitan Singapore.[28] As of 2020, he is managed by the Singapore-based modelling agency, Mannequin.[29] Paul shot to fame in 2007, when he made a special appearance on Deal or No Deal: The Hunks Special.[30]
