Jean Danker | |
---|---|
Born | 24 September 1978 |
Education | Marymount Convent School, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Diploma in Mass Communication) |
Years active | 1995 - present day |
Spouse(s) | Glenn Ong (m. 2016) |
Jean Danker is a well-established radio personality on the radio station, Class 95 FM, alongside Justin Ang and Vernon A from The Muttons. As of September 2019, she hosts the evening radio show ‘Cartunes’. Jean Danker has over 23 years of experience under her belt.[1][2] In 2013, she won the ‘Most Popular Radio Personality’ award at the MediaCorp Radio Awards.[3] In addition to radio presenting, Jean Danker has ventured into event and television hosting as well as acting.
Background
Jean Danker attended the Marymount Convent School for her primary and secondary education.[4][5] Jean Danker cultivated a passion for presenting when she served as Vice Head Prefect. In her capacity as a student leader, she hosted various school events and activities.[6]
Following secondary school, Jean joined Ngee Ann Polytechnic.[7] There, she was the Music Director for the campus radio station, Radio Heatwave, where she managed presenters, organised music-related events and prepared playlists.[8] Jean attended a Junior DJ workshop organized by Rediffusion where she landed a part-time job deejaying at 987 FM (then known as Perfect Ten) which later shaped her career.[9]
Personal advocacy
Moto (RED) Singapore Ambassador (2006)[10][11]
In 2006, Jean Danker was among the few celebrities who were appointed as a Moto (RED) Singapore Ambassador to promote sales of Motorola Razr red handphones. The Moto (RED) project is part of a worldwide movement created by U2 singer, Bono to provide aid to women and children in Africa who are afflicted with AIDS. Money collected from each Motorola Razr bought will go directly to the cause. However, the project was not well received among local ambassadors including Eunice Olsen, Rio En, Adam Chen and Russell Wong.
Beatruce Chia-Richmond, Theatre Director and Moto (RED) Singapore Ambassador stated that the project is merely an economic programme and does not directly impact and elevate the current situation of individuals in Africa.

Newsworthy Incidents
Marriage rumours with (former) Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (2007)[91][92][93]
In 2007, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (now former) was wedded to Jeanne Abdullah. Jeanne Abdullah’s maiden name was Jean Danker. This resulted in confusion among Singaporean listeners when the news of the wedding spread. Jean Danker received over 20 queries regarding the marriage and frequent call-ins during her evening show, asking her to confirm the rumour.
Jean Danker was first notified of the news when a regular listener had sent her an article of the marriage. As a joke to her viewers, Jean Danker had shared the article link on Class 95 FM’s website.
Radio rivalry with Rod Monteiro (2007)
In 2007, Rod Monteiro who had previously co-hosted the Class 95 FM evening show ‘Car Tunes’ with Jean Danker, left the radio station.[94] When interviewed by The New Paper, he mentioned that there were disagreeing perspectives between him and Jean Danker regarding the show. These disagreements prompted him to terminate his work contract.[95]
Shortly after, it was announced that Rod Monteiro will be joining One FM 91.3 and hosting the show ‘The Married Men’. The show had the same time weekday time slot (5pm to 8pm) as Jean Danker’s ‘Car Tunes’.
Despite speculations of a strategic move, Rod Monteiro clarified that the time slot was a mere coincidence and that he and Jean Danker were still friends despite the incident.[96] To commemorate the transfer, Rod Monteiro had gotten a tattoo of a dragon wrapped around a yin-yang symbol on his right bicep.[97]
