The Singaporean actress is of Malay, Peranakan, Pakistani and Dutch lineage.[1]
Background
Early Life & Family
Nurul's parents divorced when she was seven years old.[1] Nurul's mother single handedly raised her and her four siblings while working in a factory to financially support the family.[1][4] In a 2015 interview with The Straits Times, Nurul shared that she was still in contact with her biological father who had since remarried and moved to Johor.[1] Nurul Aini was a student in East View Secondary School.[5]
Marriage to Sofian Roslan (2008)
Nurul Aini started dating Sofian Roslan when she was 17 years old.[6] The couple got married in 2008 after eight years of dating.[7][8]
Children
As of September 2022, Nurul Aini and Sofian Roslan have three children together - Shan Ehan (born 2010), Shaista Eman (born 2012) and Shania Eva (born 2019).[9]
Career
Early career
Before entering show business, Nurul worked as frontline staff at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. For a while, Nurul juggled two careers in acting and hospitality. In 2005, she resigned from her executive position at the hotel to focus on her acting and hosting.[1]
Mediacorp (2002 - Present)
In 2002, Nurul Aini landed third place in Juara, a talent competition organised by MediaCorp's Suria.[10] This accomplishment kickstarted Nurul's popularity in the Malay television scene. Had it not been for her friend-turned-sister-in-law, Diah Mastura Roslan, Nurul would not have even signed up for the competition.[1]
Acting
Being trilingual, Nurul has acted in Malay, English and Mandarin dramas on MediaCorp's Suria, Channel 5 and Channel 8 respectively.[1] Nurul has also been involved in overseas productions such as Kasih Berbisik (Love Whispers)[11], a joint production between Singapore and Malaysian studio houses, and Setulus Janji in 2015.[1] Nurul is known to be playful on set. During an attempt to prank a cameraman on the set of a Suria period drama, Bunga Tanjong, she fractured her arm and had to wear a cast for a month.[12]
