Muhammad Azhar was introduced as a Workers’ Party (WP) candidate on 25 June 2020.[19][20][21] As someone with a disability, he advocates for a more inclusive Singapore society.[22] He wants to be a voice for the vulnerable, disadvantaged and the disabled.[23] According to his profile on the Workers’ Party website, his hopes for Singapore are:[24]
1. To have complete transparency, fairness and accountability in all areas of government, public administration and the economy.
2. A political system allowing greater representation of ethnic minorities in all areas of governance.
3. Creating a society whose emphasis is not on class and status, and where the weak and vulnerable are protected and given the necessary assistance.
He joined the Workers’ Party (WP) because he "strongly believes in having a strong alternative voice in parliament".[25] With 42.24 per cent of the votes, the Workers' Party team lost Marine Parade GRC to the People's Action Party team led by Tan Chuan Jin.[26]
