The offence occurred during the woman’s third meeting with Lim. According to the victim’s testimony, at the first two meetings Lim made suggestive comments. At the third meeting he asked the woman to kiss him. She complied but stated she made a “disgusted face” after doing so. Lim then asked her to kiss him again “with more passion”, and during this second kiss he placed his hand on her chest. The woman pulled away in shock and refused further advances.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1" />
== Background ==
Ken Lim Chih Chiang (born 1964) is a Singaporean songwriter, producer, and founder of Hype Records, a talent management and music production company established in 1992. He gained national recognition as a long-time judge on the reality competition series ''Singapore Idol'' from 2004 to 2009.<ref name=":1" /><ref name=":3" />

Lim is married to Judy Hsu, the Chief Executive Officer for Wealth and Retail Banking at Standard Chartered Bank. Before her corporate career, she was known as a singer under the stage name Hsu Zhong Wei (徐仲薇). The couple has two sons.<ref name=":3" />
=== Judicial findings and sentencing ===
[[File:Ken Lim when he was a judge.jpg|thumb|''Ken Lim when he was a judge on Singapore Idol (2004). Photo from [https://www.8days.sg/entertainment/local/ken-lim-things-know-molestation-charge-767396 8days].'']]
After the trial, Principal District Judge Lee Lit Cheng found the victim to be a truthful and credible witness, and described Lim’s testimony as “untruthful”. The judge also emphasised that Lim had exploited his position as interviewer and authority figure, created a mentor‑mentee dynamic, and committed skin‑to‑skin contact with the victim—all factors which aggravated the offence.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1" />

On 18 November 2025, Lim was sentenced to 13 months’ imprisonment. During sentencing, the prosecution requested 12 months’ jail with an additional one month in lieu of caning (since Lim was over 50 and not eligible for caning). The court also granted the prosecution’s application to withdraw five other charges (relating to allegations involving three other women) under Section 147(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, amounting to a discharge‑amounting‑to‑acquittal on those charges.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":2" />

The case underscores how a power imbalance—in this case interviewer vs interviewee—may aggravate the offence of molestation. The judge noted that Lim “cultivated an image of authority and expertise by mentioning names of local celebrities and telling the complainant how he had trained them”.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1" />

The skin‑on‑skin contact was noted as a key aggravating element. Because Lim was above 50 years old, caning was excluded under Singapore law; the additional one month was applied instead.<ref name=":2" />

The five withdrawn charges mean that if Lim’s conviction is overturned on appeal, those charges may be revived under Section 147(1) of the CPC.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":3" />
