LadyIronChef was started in 2007 by founder and Chief Editor, Brad Lau.[3] The website began as a platform for Brad to document his food and travel experiences. Since then, LadyIronChef has grown to accommodate a small team of supporting writers.[4][5][6] Brad’s wife, Melody Yap,[7] has also been the website’s Business Director since 2014.[8] According to LadyIronChef’s website, there is no meaning behind its name.[3]

Community & Viewership

LadyIronChef reportedly has an average monthly viewership reach of three million page views. Its audience demographic of both local and international followers fall in the 18 to 45-year-old range.[9] According to a 2012 article on Soshiok.com (now defunct), the website had over one million page views in December 2012.[10] Since May 2018, LadyIronChef has also been operating a Telegram chat group where subscribers can receive updates about the latest food and travel news.[11] As of October 2020, the group has over 3,000 subscribers.[12]

Content overview

LadyIronChef produces content on three platforms - its website, Instagram and Facebook. As of September 2020, it publishes one to two articles on its website daily which are then cross-posted on its Instagram and Facebook accounts.[13][14]

On its website, LadyIronChef publishes written content about food, travel and lifestyle. In the third quarter of 2020, most of its content was geared towards food reviews and listicles rather than travel due to international border closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Timely content

LadyIronChef also stays up to date with the latest trends in the food industry. In October 2020, the website reviewed Little Sheep Hot Pot, highlighting the ongoing hotpot trend across Southeast Asia.[15] In light of the annual Mid Autumn Festival that occurs every September/October, LadyIronChef released a listicle in August 2020 about the different kinds of mooncakes that readers could order.[16] As Singapore resumed phase two of its circuit breaker measures in June 2020, LadyIronChef published “8 Activities That You Can Now Do in Phase 2 While Practicing Social Distancing”; a listicle detailing possible activities that could be done while maintaining social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.[17]

Facebook

LadyIronChef’s Facebook page was created in February 2012.[18] Its posts typically receive over a hundred likes and shares on average.[19][20][21] LadyIronChef also organises dining deals for its Facebook audience, having partnered with the restaurant reservation platform, Chope in September 2020 to give away discounted deals and vouchers from selected restaurants.[22]

At the time of writing (October 2020), each post on LadyIronChef’s Instagram account receives over 1,000 likes on average.[23][24] The website's one-minute videos also receive a large number of views, with most garnering over 20,000 views.[25] One of the most recent videos posted in September 2020, featuring the popular European restaurant, The White Rabbit received over 69,000 views.[26] LadyIronChef’s Instagram "Highlights" reel also features dining deals with food and beverage (F&B) companies as well as travel FAQs (frequently asked questions).[27][28]

Brand collaborations & advertorials

In 2012, LadyIronChef was invited by Nestle and Finnair to tour the Nestle headquarters in Switzerland.[29] Companies such as BMW and Panasonic have also partnered with LadyIronChef to promote their products and services. In a 2015 MustShare News article, it was reported that LadyIronChef charged a restaurant S$3,800 for a sponsored post on its website.[30] The following is a list of the advertorials that LadyIronChef has produced over the years.
